Subconscious Mind

Have you ever imagined how life would be if everything happened just the way you dreamed of ? Have you ever wondered how some people are just so gifted, and living the best of their lives with great wealth and prosperity, health, education, and happiness? Have you ever yearned for such a life? Did you know that the life you’ve always wanted can be created by you yourself just by changing the way you think? Buddha once said, “You are what you think. What you feel, you attract. What you imagine, you create.”

Our mind can be divided into two, the conscious and subconscious mind. The conscious mind is sometimes referred to as the rational/the waking/voluntary or objective mind. This is because the cognitive process occurs here. It is the reasoning mind that we use to make every decision in life, no matter how salient they are, or just a minor choice such as choosing what to eat, deciding when to bathe, determining your career path, or choosing your life partner.

On the other hand, the term irrational mind/the sleeping/ involuntary/ the subjective mind is often referred to our subconscious mind. It is said so because the subconscious mind accepts whatever ideas that are put onto the conscious mind and begins executing it. It does not differentiate between good or bad ideas. It just accepts whatever idea your conscious mind accepts to be true. Even if you assumed something that is false to be true, your subconscious mind will accept it as true and begin to work to bring the desired result because you ‘consciously’ believed it to be true. The conscious mind acts as the “watchman at the gate”, where it serves to shield your subconscious mind from misconceptions. This also means that your subconscious mind is very vulnerable, and reactive to thoughts and suggestions.

Your subconscious mind is like the soil, and your conscious mind is like a seed. Whatever you plant in the soil, the soil just accepts and absorbs it and soon the seed grows into a plant. The plant is just like the result of the decisions, choices and thoughts that you have made consciously, which just sinks into the subconscious mind and produces a result. This is why the way you think is very important, because what you think builds your life.

The subconscious mind works by the law of belief. A beautiful verse in the Bible says, ‘If anyone says to this mountain “ Be lifted from your place and hurled into the sea,” and has no inward doubts, but believes that what he says is happening, it will be done for him. I tell you, then, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.’ (Mark 11:23-24) What we believe in is of no importance. What matters the most the the amount of faith and trust we have, no matter how impossible it may seem to be like.

All that we have gone through in our lives is a result of what we once believed in, including the bad events in life. Of course, none of us would have prayed that something bad must happen to us but if some bad event did happen, how we choose to react determines the level of trust, faith, and belief we have in our prayers. When something goes wrong out of a sudden, saying negations like “I will never get a good job”, “I don’t know why are things not going my way”, “I have no more hope left”, “I can never afford it”, etc just makes things even worse because your subconscious mind will start working towards the negative thoughts in your brain. Mentally making
such statements is one of the reasons why you fail to get the desired outcome.

How to get the result you want? Apart from having only positive thoughts and affirmations, having faith, believing, and trusting the process, you can also use the power of imagination. The visualization technique is one of the most evident and effortless ways one can use to imprint thoughts and desires. You can see whatever that’s happening in the outside world and you know that they are real. You can create what you want to see by visualizing it first in your mind and you have to know that it is as real as any of your body parts. All the imaginative ideas and thoughts are actual, and sooner or later, you will be experiencing it in your objective world, as long as you have faith in it.

Visualize things like they have already happened. Think of the end result, the outcome and the exact emotions that you will feel if it happens, feel it now while visualizing. Envision with every single little details. Do it religiously right before you sleep, when you enter into a sleepy drowsy state, and right after you awaken. This is because the activity of the conscious mind is suppressed to a great extend, which enables the subconscious mind to play a bigger role at these times. All that is visualized will instigate the subconscious mind to take up the idea and start working on it.

To put it briefly, Dr Joseph Murphy who was the author of the book ‘The Power of Your Subconscious Mind’ said that “In order for your world to change, you have to change your mind… from the inside out. The Law of Life is the Law of Belief. A belief is the thought in your mind. Do not believe in
things that harm or hurt you. Believe in the power of your subconscious to heal, inspire, strengthen, and prosper you. According to your belief, it is done to you.” Tamasoma Jyotirgamaya. You can only get rid of darkness with light. Choose light, choose peace, choose happiness, and choose love! Affirm only positive thoughts. Believe, have tremendous faith and pray for them to be manifested. Start doing it today and you will start loving your life.

Thank you. 🙂
